Introduction to the course

This course is aimed at practising electricians who have experience of inspection & testing of electrical installations.  This qualification is directly replacing City & Guilds 2394 and 2395.

Entry Requirements

On booking the course you should undertake the following reading in advance of attendance, and bring along:

  • IET Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2008 Incorporating Amendment No3 (2015)
  • Memorandum of Guidance on the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, HSE (available as a free download)
  • IET Guidance Note 3
  • IET On-site Guide BS 7671:2008 Incorporating Amendment No.3 (2015)
  • Your own test equipment and in-date calibration certificate (test equipment can be provided if required with prior agreement)

All candidates should have knowledge of basic electrical science and experience of electrical installations and testing (limited time is allocated during the course for practical testing so candidates should already possess these skills which are required for the practical assessment).

The course will equip you with a nationally recognised C&G qualification, delivered over five days via the following modules:

  • Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Requirements for all electrical installations
  • Requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
  • Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
  • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates, electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation
  • Safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Commissioning & maintaining of systems and equipment
  • Procedures
  • Health and Safety requirements
  • Relevant documentation
  • Factors that affect conductor resistance values
  • Methods for verifying protection

What Next

Candidates can progress to the Level 4 Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (C&G 2396); an additional qualification and skill set which will allow you to expand the range of work you are competent to undertake.
