Introduction to the course

If you are experienced in initial verification of electrical installations, regularly report on different types of existing installations or need refresher training covering both single and three phase supplies and want a qualification to demonstrate your competency in the verification of self-installations and rewires, then this could be the course for you.

This course will allow you to perform Initial Verification of electrical installations; expanding the range of work you are qualified to carry out.

It will demonstrate a level of competence that will allow you to verify new jobs and rewires that you have installed yourself. In order to demonstrate the more comprehensive level of experience required to examine work carried out by others and ensure its continued compliance with building regulations, you must also gain a 2395 – 01 Periodic Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations qualification.

Entry Requirements

All candidates should have basic knowledge of electrical science and experience of new electrical installations, and testing (limited time is allocated during the course for practical testing, candidates should posses these skills as they are required for the practical assessment) candidates should also possess the C&G 2382 (Requirements for Electrical Installations) qualification, and have good working knowledge of technical terminology, GN3 and GS38.

Course Content

The course will equip you with a nationally recognised C&G qualification, delivered over 4 days via the following modules:

  • Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
  • Requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
  • Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
  • Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
  • Requirements for testing energised installations
  • Requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates and associated documentation
  • Safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
  • Commissioning of systems and equipment
  • Procedures
  • Health and Safety requirements
  • Relevant documentation
  • Requirements for the inspection
  • Factors that affect conductor resistance values
  • Common earth fault loop paths
  • Methods for verifying protection
  • Requirements for determining fault current

Upon successful completion of all course units, you will be awarded a full 2394-01 certificate.

How is the course assessed

  • Unit 301: Principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations (Online Exam, taken at the end of the course)
  • Unit 302: Principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations (Written Exam, taken on preset dates, set by C&G)
  • Unit 303: Principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations (Practical Assignment, taken at the end of the course)

Upon successful completion of all course units, you will be awarded a full 2394-01 certificate.
