Introduction to the course

This course has been designed to provide electrical knowledge and practical skills for candidates to enable them to carry out domestic electrical installation work.

This training programme has been developed by NAPIT Training LTD in conjunction with City & Guilds Accredited and is ideal for candidates who wish to enhance their existing electrical skill set and become eligible to apply for part p certification with approved certification body.

Entry Requirements

All candidates should have basic knowledge of electrical installations, wiring systems and testing and have good working knowledge of technical terminology.

Candidates are required to bring the following:

  • BS 7671 2008, AMD 3 (2015)
  • The Electricians Guide to Building Regulations
  • On-site guide 3rd amendment
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Calculator

Course Content

The course will provide a comprehensive overview of installation, Inspection and Testing in dwelling to meet the requirements of BS 7671:2008 Incorporating Amendment No.3 (2015) and is divided into the following topics:

  • Safety and regulations
  • Installation of radial and ring final circuits
  • Inspection procedures and practises
  • Safe isolation
  • Initial verification of system design
  • Instrumentation
  • Testing sequence
  • Certification

How is the course assessed

Theory based classroom environment which is followed by practical “hands on” installation testing and certification. The candidate will carry out multiple choice theory end point assessments and a practical assessment where all of the candidates installation and testing ability will be demonstrated and assessed.

The candidate will be taught to carry out the installation, testing and certification of;

  1. Ring final circuit
  2. Radial power circuits
  3. Lighting circuits

What Next

For successful candidates who are able to provide evidence of work demonstrating 2 years of appropriate technical experience, the course provides a direct route to NAPIT electrical membership. Unlike some courses, subject to ongoing successful assessments if you chose to register on NAPIT’s Competent Person Scheme, this City and Guilds Accredited program will never need to be renewed.
