Initial ACS Assessments

What's included?

CCN1 (inc CPA1) and CENWAT
Duration: up to 5 days
Cost: £695+VAT
Additional Appliances: Initial Appliance assessments can be added for £100+VAT per appliance provided that your prior Qualification has this training undertaken, evidenced and passed

Pre-requisites

This course is specially designed for Engineers who have prior plumbing and heating qualifications i.e. Gas Diploma sat elsewhere and want to gain the Gas ACS status.

Proof of initial qualifications i.e. Certificates must be provided in order to undertake this course.

CCN1 (inc CPA1) - core gas safety

CCN1, Domestic Gas Safety, is the core qualification and is normally a pre-requisite to have before attaining other additional qualifications. There are some exceptions to this, but generally most candidates must complete CCN1, or already be in possession of this qualification before adding others. In broad terms CCN1 contains the following core modules.

  • Gas Safety Regulations
  • Emergency Actions
  • Combustion
  • Ventilation
  • Flueing
  • Gas pipework
  • Let-by & tightness testing
  • Re-establishing gas supplies
  • Pressure regulators
  • Gas rates & pressures
  • Gas controls
  • Emergency valves
  • Unsafe situations

As you can see CCN1 (inc CPA1) contains several modules and therefore training takes a number of days to complete, actual time dependant upon whether this is the first time you’ve completed this training or if it is a refresher course to renew qualifications you already hold. You must also allow time to undertake and successfully pass the associated theory and practical assessments associated with CCN1. These can also take a day or more to complete, again dependant upon the time you as an individual might need.

CENWAT1 - central heating, boilers and water heaters

CENWAT1, Domestic Gas Fired central heating, water & heaters, covers what you’ll need to know in order to safely install, service and repair this particular category of appliances. Broadly, the course covers the following knowledge areas.

  • Checking the Heating requirements & appliance outputs
  • Checking the intended installation site.
  • The gas connection and supply pipes
  • Securing the appliance correctly
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Flueing requirements, including condensate outflow
  • Tightness testing
  • Operating pressures
  • Flushing, commissioning and testing the appliance / system
  • Other ‘site specific’ checks and tests

CENWAT1 training is normally completed within a day, plus additional time to sit the theory & practical assessments.

CKR1 - domestic cookers

CKR1, Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances, covers what you’ll need to know in order to safely install, service and repair domestic gas cooking appliances. Broadly, the course covers the following knowledge areas.

  • Checking the intended installation site.
  • The gas connection and supply pipes
  • Securing the appliance correctly
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Tightness testing
  • Operating pressures
  • Commissioning and testing the appliance
  • Other ‘site specific’ checks and tests

CKR1 training is normally completed within half a day, plus additional time to sit the theory & practical assessments.

HTR1 - gas fires and wall heaters

HTR1, Domestic Gas Fires & Wall Heaters, covers what you’ll need to know in order to safely install, service and repair domestic gas fires & wall heaters. Broadly, the course covers the following knowledge areas.

  • Checking the intending installation site.
  • The gas connection and supply pipes
  • Securing the appliance correctly
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Flueing requirements
  • Tightness testing
  • Operating pressures
  • Commissioning and testing the appliance
  • Other ‘site specific’ checks and tests

HTR1 training is normally completed within half a day, plus additional time to sit the theory & practical assessments.

CPA1 - combustion performance analysis

CPA1, Flue Gas Analysers, covers what you’ll need to know in order to use a flue gas analyser throughout your training and linked to Core Gas Safety and individual appliances.  Broadly, the course covers the following knowledge areas.

  • Overview of flue gas analysis
  • The detection and measurement of gaseous particles in the air / flue-ways
  • The dangers of carbon monoxide and it’s affect on health / life
  • Measuring % oxygen levels present
  • The use of analysers to check correct combustion and gas rates
  • Testing operational efficiency of appliances
  • Assisting to determine whether appliances require further maintenance
  • Safe actions to undertake, based upon measurements detected
  • Other ‘site specific’ checks and tests

CPA1 training and assessment is now incorporated within all modules. Please also note that since April 2012 CPA1, Flue gas analysers, are also a mandatory requirement. If you are retaking your CCN1 or taking it for the first time it will be included within the CCN1 core assessment.
