Solid fuel appliances are well known for their high quality, robust construction and durability. However like any product in continuous use they do require attention by the user and routine servicing by an engineer. HETAS recommends that appliances are serviced at least once a year or according to the manufacturer’s instructions and chimneys and liners are swept prior to installation and twice a year.

In support of the requirements, HETAS has launched a Sweeping Module for engineers undertaking or holding their Installation and/or Service and Maintenance Competency or currently carrying out sweeping activities and is designed to ensure engineers are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to undertake such work and able to join the HETAS Sweep & Service Scheme for sweeping solid fuel appliances.

This course is ideal for businesses that wish to add an extra service for their customers prior to installation work and those who wish to build a repeat customer base keeping customers safe, air cleaner and stoves more efficient. A training certificate is awarded upon successful completion of the course, enabling the candidate to apply for registration with HETAS on the competent person registration scheme .
